Director’s Report
Annual Breakfast thank you!
Thank you to all who attended the annual breakfast sponsored by Nucor Steel and Dignity Memorial at Forest Lawn, and The Kenney Retirement Center for hosting the meal. We are happy to say the event raised $21,200.00 and there are checks still coming in.
Volunteer Transportation needs drivers
The volunteer transportation service has in the past had a hard time keeping up with the demand for service in West Seattle, due to the lack of drivers. Last month alone they had to turn away 60 percent of requests due to not enough drivers to deliver the service. These rides are to and from doctor appointments, usually from West Seattle to downtown or pill hill and back again. If you can give some time for this VERY needed service, please call Hilary Case at Senior Services Volunteer Transportation at 206-748-7588. They very much need your help! (and so do our seniors!)
Trader Joes – Our partner!
When shopping at our local Trader Joes, be sure to thank them for being a partner of our Senior Center! On Tuesday and Wednesday they give us their pull date meat. We repackage the meat and when we have enough of something, we put it on the menu. There are not many other Senior Centers that offer lamb chops and steak for their lunches. Trader Joes is a great community member, and we so appreciate them!
Costco donations
If you shop at our Stop n’ Shop (who wouldn’t?) you will see different Costco items for sale there. A lot of laundry soaps and dish soap, that has been damaged in some way, a cap broken usually. They have been giving it to the Center and it has been helping the bottom line in the Center budget! Thank you Costco! By the way, Aylene the store manager would like you to donate your liquid laundry detergent/soap caps. That would help a lot!
Foot care says good bye to Wade Schwartz
Wade has worked for us for the last 3 years, and we have all grown to appreciate his talents. Wade’s salon in Kent has picked up in business so he needs to concentrate his time there. We will miss him! Come meet Carolyn who is now filling that position!
There’s a new face in the office!

Mary Beth Ingersoll has joined us as our new Administrative Assistant. She has an extensive background in business operations, having worked in the corporate, small business and the non-profit sector. She is quite the multitasker making her a “Jane”-of-All-Trades.
Her experience includes office administration, event planning, retail management, project coordination, public & customer relations, sales and marketing. Mary Beth has been an active volunteer working with organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Susan G Komen Foundation, the Des Moines Waterland Festival and here at our own Senior Center. Please help us welcome our newest team member! We are very excited to have her!
